A GA Hero

As a kid, I always loved the adventures of Indiana Jones. I loved his movies and would watch them again and again. Playing in the back yard, I would pretend to snap my whip around a tree branch and swing off of high bridges, seconds before they collapsed, to save the damsel in distress and simultaneously save a priceless artifact.

As I grow older, I still admire Harrison Ford as he continues to be a hero for general aviation. Mr. Ford dedicates his time, money and literally opens his house to help AOPA promote and preserve our Freedom to Fly.

This video is not new. It was released for the first time in 2009 and has been re-posted several times and is linked in many aircraft blogs and websites. I still think it is a great video and every time I watch it I feel great pride in our community.  Mr. Ford does a great job showing how special general aviation is to him and how it has affected his life.

Many times media coverage, only showing the darker sides of aviation through crashes and other not so glamorous events, causes the general public to perceive a negative view of GA. We have all seen the news inaccurately report a story about aviation. Thankfully there are pilots like Mr. Ford who use their social status to help paint a positive picture for the GA community. Thank you Mr. Ford, your actions bring great credit upon yourself and you are a positive influence for our great community!

There are many great pilots out there using what they have to help out General Aviation. Who else would you like to recognize?
