Flying in an Airshow!

The Island of Oahu seen from our holding point
during the Kaneohe Bay Airshow 2012.
The entire trip was just shy of 9,000 nautical miles. Ten days, three practices and two airshow performances while visiting the gorgeous island of Oahu. Though our part was small, this was my first experience performing in an airshow and it was a great time!

Watching other performers loop and roll past show center, white smoke billowing from hot exhausts, while we circled at our holding point was a unique way to view an airshow. We would continuously monitor the airboss frequency, listening as performers checked in and completed their acts as we waited for Boss to tell us, "Push for wall of fire."

A view of the Airshow from our holding point.
Hank Bruckner in his CAP-10C can just be seen
completing a loop over show center.

Unfortunately we were unable to stay on Kaneohe, so as soon as our part was over we had to depart to Honolulu to keep the airspace open for other performers.

It was a great experience, one I will not soon forget. Thanks to everyone who made the weekend so enjoyable!
